At Solar Studio, we partner with globally trusted battery technology brands to bring smarter, safer, high-performance energy storage to homes and businesses across Wellington and the Kāpiti Coast.
Energy independence, lower power bills, and reliable backup power aren’t just benefits — they’re becoming essentials. That’s why we design and install premium battery systems that seamlessly integrate with your solar setup to maximise efficiency, control, and long-term value.
Solar Panels We Use
At Solar Studio, we’re picky – in a good way.
We only recommend high-quality, high-performance solar panels that we trust on our own homes and in New Zealand conditions.
Our go-to panels are:
- REC Alpha Pure-RX – 460W
- Hyundai N-Type HJT – 455W
- Winaico N-Type Bifacial Glass Series – 450W
These brands are chosen for their efficiency, long warranties and proven reliability, not just the sticker price.
That said, we know some clients already have a preferred brand or existing array.
We’re happy to work with most reputable solar panel brands – either integrating with an existing system or designing something new around your preferred product.

Bifacial vs Monofacial – What’s the Difference?
You’ll see the term “bifacial” used with some of the premium panels we install (like certain Winaico and Hyundai models). Here’s what that actually means in real-world terms.
Monofacial Panels
- These are the traditional panels most people recognise.
- They generate power from one side only – the front, which faces the sun.
- Construction is usually glass on the front, backsheet on the rear.
- They’re the most common choice for standard residential roofs and still offer excellent efficiency.
Bifacial Panels
- Bifacial panels are designed to capture light on both sides.
- Power is generated from the front plus extra energy from the rear when light reflects off surfaces below or behind the panel (roof, ground, concrete, etc.).
- They typically use a glass–glass construction, which improves durability and resistance to moisture and UV.
- In the right installation setup, bifacial panels can deliver 5–20% more energy over time compared with a similar monofacial panel.
Which One Is Right for You?
It depends on your roof and your goals:
- For most pitched residential roofs with panels mounted close to the roof surface, high-quality monofacial or bifacial panels will perform similarly, and the choice often comes down to budget and aesthetics.
- Bifacial panels come into their own on:
- Tilt frames or elevated arrays
- Flat roofs and commercial systems
- Ground mounts
- Light-coloured or highly reflective surfaces
As part of our design process, we’ll look at your roof layout, budget and long-term goals, then recommend whether a premium monofacial or bifacial option makes the most sense.
The Solar Studio Approach
Whether we’re using REC, Hyundai, Winaico, or another reputable brand you prefer, our promise stays the same:
- Bespoke system design based on your roof, usage and goals
- Panels with strong warranties and proven performance
- Installed by qualified electricians, not salespeople
If you’d like to know which panel would best suit your home or business, we can run through the options and show you the difference in output, efficiency and long-term performance side-by-side.
